Arlington, VA. – Firefighter’s Support Alliance, a project of Firefighters and EMS Fund, has created an interactive online resource, the US Fire Statistics Dashboard, that offers nationwide data on the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, a federal grant program through FEMA. This free resource quantifies how these grant funds are dispersed across the states and compares funding against metrics such as total number of firefighters and number of departments in each state so firefighters can better understand how funds are being dispersed.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant program run by the Federal Government, through FEMA is one of the most important resources available to our nation’s firefighters. As stated on the Grant website, “Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.” This vital source of funding can be difficult to understand and navigate, however, which is why Firefighter’s Support Alliance has created complementary resources for fire leaders to utilize.
“Our interactive Fire Statistics Dashboard will help local fire departments understand this important grant program. It can be hard to navigate federal funding and understand how the funds are dispersed, but our tool can help make this information more transparent and easy to grasp. The interactive tool allows firefighters to see the data visually, and you can manipulate it to see specific state funding and compare the data against other metrics,” said Executive Director Nile Porter.
Firefighter’s Support Alliance was formed in 2019 to support the political issues and causes of firefighters across the nation. Firefighter’s Support Alliance is a political fund fighting for legislation and referendums geared towards keeping our firefighters safe.
